I was outside taking pictures of my Cherry Yoghurt Bundt Cake and a few neighbourhood girls came by all inquisitive like asking “what are you doing?” So I told them I was just trying to get some natural light for my photos. They quipped how I took a lot of photos and that my cake smelled really good and if they could have some. I told them they’d of course have to ask their parents; but then it turned into them asking me to make them some cupcakes for their Halloween Block Party after running it by a parent and that they must be Halloween themed. Since I always have Halloween colours & decorations on hand as a skull lover and collector I said sure, when and what time. I delivered the cupcakes to the block party and the girls loved them and were very appreciative as well as the parents. I love when I can put smiles on little kids faces and I also got to meet a few neighbours.

Cupcake Decorating: Practice #3

Cupcake Practice #3 – Candy Coated Culinista

For the Easter weekend I made 48 cupcakes for our church brunch and here a small sampling of the cupcakes. I made 1 dozen French vanilla cupcakes, 1 dozen chocolate and the two dozen half French vanilla and half chocolate cupcakes. The frostings were: Chocolate frosting, white chocolate frosting and classic vanilla buttercream. As it the Easter season I bought a bunch of peeps to decorate. I tried three different piping tips and I must say this is the most cupcakes I have ever made. I never really thought I could make such a large batch of cupcakes; but I did and they were enjoyed by all. Not to sweet and so cute and themed.

I have been passing by Zoe’s at least once a month for over a year now, and today I came here for the cupcakes, and to my dismay they are only on the menu based on availability, hmmm. I wasn’t going to waste a visit so I found another dessert to enjoy.

There wasn’t much selection at all considering “bakery” is in the name of the business. I had two options a jam square type thing and a tart. I choose the maple walnut tart and strawberry lemonade. This tart was not too sweet, and it was chewy, crumbly and had buttery crust. The walnuts were crunchy and well balanced within the tart. I could eat more than one and not feel that I had too many sweets or get a tooth ache. This was a pricy tart though and with the drink it came to $6.30. This would be a once and awhile thing, even though it was delicious.

Review
This was a very dense cupcake with an inch of swirled buttercream frosting. I loved the density of the cupcakes, because then I feel that one is enough. The frosting was rich and sweet. I am not a frosting fan so I only ate enough to taste test. Mr. C. had the strawberry cupcake and enjoyed every bite. He also noticed the density also. I also heard “yum” as he ate it.
